Because I didn’t know about autism. Heck, that word itself scared the hell out of me when the Dr. said it.
Our communities continue to miss the mark, the most well-intentioned people I know, people I love, continue to the miss the mark.
I knew our parenting style was different. Our challenges as new parents and now are very different from families we are closest with.
And this is important… different is great! We do most things “neurotypical” families do, but with preparation, practice, practiced personal flexibility, and an open mind.
