Special Education services and relationships pause when summer starts. So we enrolled Jeanne in a brand new Autism ABA therapy school.
They call it “the honeymoon phase” when a child is on their best behavior in a new environment with one-on-one time with adults.
The end of school is exhausting and then you pile on top learning a new environment, meeting new peers and adults, and then the adult make you work hard in therapy. It’s truly exhausting for Jeanne and others.
Jeanne’s team said the honeymoon period is ending this week. She is trusting her adult team more and building deeper relationships and getting more comfortable.
We are Jeanne’s safe zone. Her siblings, mom, and dad are the people she feels most comfortable around. And because she’s tired from working hard, her big emotions come out. Her temper fuse is shorter. We need to work harder in regulating ourselves and to give her more grace, some days are more successful than others.
I see Jeanne’s tiredness as a good sign! She’s working hard! Her social and emotional skills are growing and she’s 6, her body is growing too!
We are here for the longhaul and so are her team members.
